WILLIAM MARK

The British consul William Mark, took responsability of the English Cemetery, in Malaga. He was born in Berwick, on Tweed, on 5 March 1782, but he died on 13 January 1848 in Alhaurin El Grande in Malaga, where he live with his wife, He was buried in the English Cemetery in 1849. His funeral was as respectful as possible by the Spanish authority. He wanted to create the English Cemetery, because he was really concerned about the impossibility (non-Catholics had) of being properly buried at a Catholic cemetery.
A non-Catholic cemetery would accept other Christians burials: Anglicans, Protestants...and so they wouldn´t be buried at night on the beach.
